Marissa Kisses a Girl on The O.C.
For those of you who don't keep up, Fox's The O.C. has had a great storyline the past few weeks featuring a main character, Marissa, falling for a girl. Marissa, played beautifully by Mischa Barton (Lost and Delirious, TV's Once and Again) is the typical spoiled little rich girl who has found someone who understands her in Alex, the local bar girl, played by Olivia Wilde. Alex is bisexual and hasn't pulled any punches about who she is, being upfront with Marissa. The growing attraction between the two has been played out beautifully, full of longing glances and tension-filled silences, finally culminating in a kiss between the two on the beach.

In the next episode, "The Test," Marissa is indeed put to the test when Alex invites her to hang out with her friends, who just happen to be all lesbians. Marissa hasn't quite been able to tell Summer about Alex, and begins to act weird. Personally, this is where I thought the producers were either going to make-or-break the storyline, with Marissa's weirdness being the deciding factor. And just when I thought Marissa would chicken out, not tell Summer, and break Alex's heart, she blurted out that she had been seeing Alex. Summer's response was the response we all hope to hear from a true friend, both poignant and touching. Cut to Marissa showing up at Alex's house to find her friends gone, and Alex down in the dumps. Haltingly, Marissa explains how she got scared, but once she found the courage to tell Summer, she knew everything was okay, and she does care about Alex. A sweet ending to a very well written episode. Kudos to both of these young actresses as they have done an excellent job with the storyline.

Looks like the next episode will have Marissa telling her Mom she's dating a girl. Stay tuned for major fireworks in that one! Tune in to this guilty pleasure on Thursday nights at 8/7 p.m. central on Fox!
