Welcome to random:musings!
Well, we finally did it. We have a blog on OutLook now! While it could have been an easy endeavor if I'd be satisfied with using the default templates, I couldn't do that. Oh, no. It had to match the rest of the OutLook site. No problem, right? Well, for CSS tech-heads maybe not. But I for one absolutely despise Web design and coding even though I have to do it. Just drives me crazy that code can look different on different browsers and platforms. Aaarrrggghhhh!
Anyway, if you would kindly let me know if you see any weirdness in the blog or how it acts in your browser, I sure would appreciate it. You can email me and I'll see what I can do to figure it out. I'll probably just pull my hair out and stomp my feet, to be honest. :)
In the meantime, the second season premiere of The L Word was on last night! Wow! I'm so glad it's back. However, I can't say that I'm thrilled with the new intro. The music was incredibly obnoxious, and the visuals...well, they brought to mind the QAF visuals. And can't say I'm a fan of that intro, either. Why couldn't they pick a tasteful, exciting, great musically-backed intro? This one needs to be dumped and fast!

Later this week, we'll give our two cents of what we think about the first episode of the new season. Right off the cuff, I'd say it wasn't too bad. Could have been better, could have been worse. Wish they had done a two-hour intro for it, though. Seemed way too short.
It should be interesting to see if the standard outcry happens. Oh, you know what it is: "The women are too fem…they're all lipstick lesbians…I don't know any lesbians who look like that…They're too rich…there aren't enough cats…" blah, blah, blah. Personally, I don't really understand why everyone is so damn upset. I mean, let's think about this logically, okay? Lesbians are being portrayed on television in a fairly positive light for the first time in....what? Forever?! Is it possible for the producers to satisfy the entire lesbian population in an hour with characters that represent every single faction of lesbianism? Highly doubtful.
For me, the question remains: Why the insistence on political correctness? Why insist there be more butches? More big, beautiful women? More cats? More whatever?! Please, before you crucify me, I have absolutely nothing against butches, BBWs, cats, or whatever! I may not be butch, but I have a cat and could stand to lose quite a few pounds. :) Come on, ladies, it's a television show. It's fiction. It's a fictionalized account of what the producers have created in their minds and while it may not be indicative of the majority of our lives, it's still showing us in a positive light for the most part. I, for one, am thrilled the show is on the air as it gives me an hour each week to kick back and enjoy. Instead of tearing down the show and producers, let's support it. Let's really get behind those beautiful ladies who are doing their best to represent us to the viewing public and let them know how much we appreciate the stand they are taking.

The O.C.'s Lesbian Twist: Alex and Marissa
Another thing that has ticked me off are the people who tuned into The O.C. just to see the Alex (Olivia Wilde) and Marissa (Mischa Barton) coupling/kiss, and trashed them for it, saying it was fake, a publicity stunt, etc. I have been a fan of the show since it came on, and given the arc of the Marissa character, her actions and feelings for Alex have been right on target. This is a kid who's floundering. She has the world's worst mother in Julie (Melissa Clarke), her Dad's floated off into the sunset after stealing money from everyone. She has sex with her first boyfriend (Luke) only to find out he's banging a lot of other girls, falls for Ryan, the resident "bad boy" who promptly gets another girl pregnant. Oh, and she's also a huge drunk who tried to off herself the first season. Whew! As you can see, she's troubled and drawn to just about anyone who will pay attention to her. The attraction to Alex, I believe, is based on the fact that Alex stood up for her when she was down, and also Alex is a "bad girl." Two combinations that Marissa simply can't pass up! Given all that, my feelings are that one should watch the show or at least know something about the character arcs before spouting off about how horrible it is.
Okay. I'm off my soap box now. :)
In the meantime, for those of you who like brain teasers, here's one for you. (No, this has nothing to do with OutLook, lesbians, or anything relevant to that, but hey, it's my blog and I can write what I want!). Here's the brain teaser: A frog falls down a 50 foot well. Each day, he jumps three feet and slides back two feet. How many days does it take for him to get out of the well? Write me with your answer or post it on the blog! First person to correctly answer the brain teaser wins a $10 iTunes Gift Certificate. Until then, have a good one! Oh, and make sure to let us know if you like the blog or not. If there is other stuff you'd like to see on OutLook, let us know, too! ~Cheers!
